Power Quote
Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.
Lord Acton
I disagree with this quote by Lord Acton. Whoever this Lord Acton guy is, he has a very strange definition of the word ‘great’. A lot of our founding fathers were great men; they were also good men. I really have no idea what he means in this quote. I cannot think of a single great man who was a bad man. Hitler was not a great man, Stalin was not a great man, Mao was not a great man. They were tyrannical unfair leaders, but if that is what defines great, then why don’t we just stop caring and instead let those people take over our governments and destroy our world. If there are two presidential candidates, and one is a bad person, why would anyone give them power? Why would anyone make them great? They would not. The other candidate would win and become great. That is the point of voting. Now if there are two more presidential candidates, except these two are both evil, and one gets voted into office, that still does not make him great. It just makes him an evil man in office, which will most likely lead to impeachment. Celebrities are most often times, really horrible people. Just because they are in a movie or two does not make them great people. If they wanted to be great, they would spend their money helping people instead of on themselves. And I mean actually helping people from their heart, not just giving to charity or something because it will make them look like good people. They actually need to be good people. Now I know that no one is perfect, but you do not need to be perfect in order to be great, you just need to accept and strive to improve those imperfections.
Uncategorized | Comments (3)48 laws to power
I believe that the 48 laws do in fact work in order to gain power. Or, they should work, but they may just look good on paper and not work at all in real life. Some people believe that ‘what goes around comes around,’ saying that if you are a good person, good will come to you. These 48 laws contradict that completely. They rely on bluff and trickery, something that can make or break you.

What advice do you have for Macbeth? Should he kill the king? How?
I do not think Macbeth should kill the king. His life is already good, he does not need to end someone else’s just to make his a little bit better.
Can he/can anyone be successful without hurting other people?
I think people can be successful without hurting other people. Good things come to those who wait. The meek shall inherit the earth. etc.
Shakespeare.. why teach it?
Why do we teach Macbeth and Shakespeare at all?
Shakespeare is taught in schools because he was a great writer/poet and we can all learn good writing techniques from him and his work.
What are your experiences learning Shakespeare?
The only time I have studied Shakespeare is last year when we read and studied Romeo & Juliet in 9th grade English.
What worked and what didn’t?
It was fun to do little sketches of the book in class, and we got to watch like 3 movies so that was really good.
Uncategorized | Comment (0)About those vending machines..
Dear Principal Dunbar,
I believe that soda pop and candy should not be removed from the school vending machines. Nutritionists and parents should not be the ones to decide what snacks we have at our school. They should offer snacks that kids want.
If good snacks and removed and replaced by “healthy” snacks, then the school will make no money off of the vending machines. No one is going to buy broccoli and carrot sticks from a vending machine. Replacing the good snacks is a waste of time. You would be better off just removing the vending machines altogether, or better yet, keep the original snacks.
Switching the current snacks with healthy snacks is simply pointless. I don’t think eating some carrot sticks instead of Funyuns will really do anything great for our bodies. It’s not like all we eat is from the vending machines. We have regular balanced meals too. Vending machines are just for providing good tasting snacks for someone who just wants something to eat. We students are not replacing our meals with Chips Ahoy cookies.
Therefore, I believe that the current vending machine snacks should be kept and not replaced with “healthy” counterparts.
Sincerely,
Ryan
